Small-Batch Coffee for People Who Give a Damn
Roasted to order. Shipped within 24 hours. Every origin, named.
Three Ways to Drink Better Coffee
Whole bean, wholesale, or hands-on. Your call.
Single-Origin Whole Bean Subscription
A recurring delivery built around your taste. Every bag ships within 24 hours of roasting, labeled with the farm, region, and processing method. The subscription adapts as your palate does, lighter, darker, or a rotation that keeps things interesting.
Wholesale Roasting for Cafes
Purpose-roasted for your menu, your equipment, and your customers. We work with cafe owners who want full origin transparency on their menu boards and a roaster who picks up the phone. Flexible volume, consistent schedules, no middlemen.
Brewing Equipment and Classes
The right gear matters, but knowing how to use it matters more. We stock the equipment we actually trust and run small brewing classes that cover the fundamentals, grind, ratio, temperature, technique, so nothing is guesswork at your counter.
Why We Started
Transparency first. Freshness always.
Northwind started from a simple frustration: coffee bags that told you nothing. No farm name, no altitude, no harvest date. Just a roast level and a marketing word. Mara Lind built Northwind on the opposite premise. Every bag we sell traces back to a named origin with real information about how the coffee was grown and processed. When you know where something comes from, you taste it differently. That is not an accident. It is the entire point.
Today Northwind works with home brewers who want to keep leveling up and cafe owners who want their menus to mean something. Roasting small means we control every variable. Shipping within 24 hours means the coffee you receive is actually fresh, not warehouse-fresh. And the subscription that learns your taste exists because we believe your preferences should drive the relationship, not a static recurring SKU someone signed you up for once and forgot about.
The Northwind Standard
Two commitments that do not move.
Roasted to Order, Every Time
We do not roast ahead and hold inventory hoping it sells. Every order triggers a fresh roast. Beans ship within 24 hours of coming off the drum. The difference in your cup is immediate and obvious, and once you taste it you will not go back to sitting-on-a-shelf coffee.
Single-Origin Transparency on Every Bag
Every bag we sell names the farm, region, elevation, variety, and process. Not as a marketing gesture. Because it is information you deserve when you are deciding what to put in your cup and what to tell your cafe customers. Opacity is a choice. We chose otherwise.
How It Works
From your order to your counter, fast.
For Home Brewers
Choose a single origin or start a subscription. The subscription profile learns your preferences over time and adjusts your next shipment accordingly. Every order is roasted fresh on the day it ships.
Browse the current origin lineup, pick your grind or whole bean, and check out. We handle the rest. Your coffee arrives ready to brew, not ready to stale.
Ships within 24h of roast
For Cafe Owners
Wholesale starts with a conversation about your menu, your equipment, and your volume. We develop a roast profile that works for your context and deliver on a schedule that keeps your bar stocked without over-ordering.
Full origin documentation is included so your staff can talk about what is in the bag. Brew method classes are available for your team if you want them. This is a working partnership, not a supplier arrangement.
Wholesale inquiries welcome
Common Questions
Straight answers. No runaround.
What does "roasted to order" actually mean?
It means your coffee is not roasted until after you place your order. We do not pre-roast and warehouse inventory. When your order comes in, we roast your specific beans and ship them within 24 hours. Fresh-roasted coffee tastes materially different from coffee that has been sitting in a warehouse or on a retail shelf for weeks.
How does the subscription learn my taste?
After each delivery you can share feedback on what you liked or wanted differently. We use that to refine your next selection, whether that means adjusting the roast level, rotating to a different origin profile, or keeping what is working. It is a real conversation, not an algorithm running without input from you.
Do you offer wholesale for small cafes, or only high-volume accounts?
We work with cafes of a range of sizes. The important thing is that you care about origin and freshness as much as we do. If you want a roaster who will help you tell the story of what is in your cup, reach out through the contact form and we can talk through what a wholesale arrangement would look like for your operation.
What brewing equipment do you carry, and do I need experience for the classes?
We stock equipment we have actually used and tested, not a curated marketplace of everything. The classes are designed to meet you where you are. Whether you just bought your first pour over or you have been dialing in espresso for years, the goal is to give you practical knowledge you can apply immediately at home.
How do I know where my coffee actually comes from?
Every bag ships with origin information that names the farm or cooperative, the region and country, the elevation, the variety, and the processing method. This is printed on the label and available on our site for each current offering. We do not use vague regional blends to obscure sourcing. If we cannot tell you where it came from, we do not sell it.
